Calling all Pickering Naturalists

Forty years ago, a small group of committed environmentalists met to discuss the formation of a local nature organization.  They envisioned a friendly club with monthly meetings featuring interesting presentations, regular outings to local sites with occasional trips farther afield, plus a newsletter to keep everyone in touch.  The group would be open to everyone with a passion for nature – from birds to butterflies, from ferns to fossils, from snakes to stars.  The target audience would be families and individuals of all ages in Pickering and Ajax, plus those in neighbouring communities.

Four decades later – it’s time to celebrate!

We would like to extend a special invitation to you – past presidents, other members of the executive, directors, volunteers, PN Conservation Award winners and members from the earlier days of our club  –  to join us for a special meeting.

On the evening of Thursday March 2, 2017, we will meet to commemorate the success of our first forty years.   Doors will open at 6:30 pm for a meet-and-greet session with refreshments, and the meeting itself will begin at 7:15 pm.

If you have photos of meetings, members, outings, Amos Ponds, or newspaper clippings or other memorabilia (e.g., mugs, bumper stickers, PN clothing, etc.) relating to the Pickering Naturalists, we would very much appreciate hearing from you as soon as possible.  For photos and other suitable items, we are hoping to make scans so they may be shared with club members. 

If you find it impossible to attend in person, we are hoping that it may be possible to arrange some type of digital alternative.

This meeting and our regular monthly meetings are held at the Pickering Recreation Complex in the O’Brien Rooms, 1867 Valley Farm Road, Pickering.
